Johnnie Ghiglia

Johnnie Ghiglia grew up as a little cowboy on a large 3000 acre cattle ranch in Northern Nevada outside of Reno. Johnnie is currently a Community Liaison in Business Development for Aurora Behavioral Health Hospital and the CEO / Founder of OutIsTheNewIn Foundation, a nonprofit organization. While married, Johnnie was told that his son Chase ‘is gay’ at the age of 5. Mother’s intuition! Chase came out at 17 and told his family that he is gay. At the time, Johnnie was working as a Police Officer for Scottsdale Police Department. Johnnie had no idea that one of Chase’s concerns was not only what he did for a living but he had a perception of who Johnnie worked with. That perception was their macho ego personalities. Johnnie informed Chase that if people he worked with could not accept Chase for who he is then they were no longer a friend of his. It was a very simple choice. While Chase was attending college in AZ, it all started with a conversation while sitting in a family room discussing potential ideas of what we could do to give back and support Chase as well as the LGBTQIA+ local community. OutIsTheNewIn came to life in that 10 minute conversation unbeknownst to Johnnie, however nothing developed from that conversation at that time. Years later that conversation developed into what his true purpose in life is today. That purpose is focusing on being the best ally and advocate a parent can be supporting and giving back to the LGBTQIA+ community through volunteering, donating, collaborating, sponsoring, mentoring and organizing. OutIsTheNewIn’s cause is to give back to the LGBTQIA+ youth and young adult age group focusing on suicide prevention, mental health and homelessness. Johnnie has been blessed to have had the opportunities of working in the NFL as an Athletic Trainer, being the Head Certified Athletic Trainer at Grand Canyon University and completing a 21-year career in Law Enforcement and now a Community Liaison. He also works part time as a Floating East Valley Satellite Coordinator for the one•n•ten nonprofit organization and is the Founder of a podcast (OutIsTheNewIn – You have a Purpose) that focuses on giving people the platform to tell their personal story of coming out, allyship, advocacy, trauma, addiction and sobriety all-encompassing mental health. Johnnie is also a board member of Lights, Camera, Discover and Chandler Pride, both nonprofit organizations. Johnnie is also a committee member of the Mental Health Matters Conference, Arizona. Johnnie’s interests consist of hiking, mountain biking and working on his mental, emotional, spiritual and physical health to keep a true focus on his purpose in life when he has some spare time.
